Selina Carlhoff is a Researcher in the Department of Archaeogenetics at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology. She holds a PhD from the same institute under Prof. Johannes Krause and a M.Sci. in Marine Biology from the University of Southampton (UK). Her research integrates archaeology, anthropology, and genetics to explore regional connectivity and community structures in human history. Current projects include Southeast Asian Holocene-to-colonial dynamics and post-Bronze Age Central Europe studies. She co-leads the department's Ethics Interest Group and develops bioinformatic pipelines for genetic analysis.
- Education:
- PhD: Human Archaeogenomics of Southeast Asia (2018-2023)
- M.Sci.: Marine Biology (2014-2018)
- Key Research Areas:
- Genetic patterns of human migration
- Prehistoric community structures
- Ethical frameworks in archaeogenetics
Her publications emphasize ancient DNA analysis of populations across Wallacea, Papua New Guinea, and Central Europe, revealing insights into migration routes, social organization, and disease history. Current work within the MICROSCOPE project examines dynastic succession in early Celtic elites. She actively bridges laboratory and computational methods to address anthropological questions.
Collaborations span institutions globally, with a focus on interdisciplinary projects. Her lab activities include co-organizing ethics discussions and advancing bioinformatics tools for genomic data analysis.
