Sebastian Wogenstein is an Associate Professor of German Studies and Comparative Literature at the University of Connecticut. He serves as Co-Director of the Connecticut/Baden-Württemberg Human Rights Research Consortium (HRRC) and Secretary-Treasurer of the North American Heine Society. His research focuses on German-Jewish literature, the intersection of literature and human rights, and 20th/21st-century German literature.
Education: Dr. phil., University of Tübingen; M.A., Washington University in St. Louis. He has held visiting fellowships at the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (2021–2023) and conducted doctoral research at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
Research Interests: Wogenstein’s work explores themes such as German-Jewish intellectual history, human rights frameworks in literature, and tragic aesthetics. His publications include monographs like *Horizonte der Moderne* and co-edited volumes on global cultures and borders. His recent work engages with feminist conceptions of human rights (e.g., Hedwig Dohm) and the ethical dimensions of Jewish tragedy in modernity.
