Katharina von Hammerstein

Prof. Katharina von Hammerstein is Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor Emerita of German Studies at the University of Connecticut. She co-directs the Connecticut/Baden-Württemberg Human Rights Research Consortium and specializes in German literature intersecting with human rights and postcolonial studies.

Her interdisciplinary research examines textual representations of violence, race, and gender in historical contexts from German Romanticism to colonial genocide. Current work investigates testimonies on the German-Ovaherero Colonial War in Namibia.
