Dr. Sebastian Lewis serves as a Guest Associate Professor at the Notre Dame London Law Programme and a Lecturer in Public Law and Legal Theory at the University of Surrey's School of Law. He concurrently directs Communications, External Engagement, and Strategic Partnerships at the Surrey Centre for Law and Philosophy. Previously, he held teaching roles at the University of Oxford, King’s College London, and the LSE, and served as a visiting fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law.
He earned a PhD in Law from the University of Oxford, an LLM from Harvard Law School, and an LLB from Universidad de los Andes (Chile), holding Chilean legal qualifications. His research focuses on legal philosophy, including the foundations of legal systems, sources of law, rule-of-law principles, and non-delegated legal authority. His work appears in journals like the Oxford Journal of Legal Studies, Canadian Journal of Law and Jurisprudence, and Law & Philosophy.
Sebastian co-edited Philosophical Foundations of Precedent (OUP, 2023) and actively engages in academic partnerships through the Surrey Centre for Law and Philosophy.
