Sebastian Latocha is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cultural Anthropology and Critical Heritage Studies at the University of Lodz, Faculty of Philosophy and History. His academic work focuses on ethnology and cultural anthropology, with particular emphasis on urban spaces, heritage studies, and medical anthropology.
Dr. Latocha's research spans multiple domains including urban ethnology, particularly studying the Józef Montwiłł-Mirecki housing estate in Łódź. He has developed innovative conceptual frameworks such as 'urban bucolics' - examining how rural, pastoral patterns manifest in urban settings - and 'museum as a verb,' which explores community engagement with museum practices. His medical anthropology work investigates folk beliefs about transplantation, analyzing how ordinary people conceptualize the transfer of personality through organ donation.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on contemporary issues in cultural heritage, memory studies, and urban anthropology. Latocha frequently employs innovative methodological approaches including community ethnography, autoethnography, and cartographic experiments using tools like Google Earth Pro. His work bridges theoretical frameworks with practical field research, contributing significantly to Polish anthropological scholarship.
Among his notable contributions is his research on Professor Ewa Nowina-Sroczyńska, where he developed the concept of 'metaxi-anthropology.' He has also published extensively on post-German village landscapes in central Poland and commemoration practices related to WWII displacement in Łódź.
Dr. Latocha maintains active academic engagement through multiple scholarly profiles including ORCID (0000-0003-4226-9131), Scopus, and Google Scholar. He has published 83 documented scholarly outputs and supervised one promoted thesis, demonstrating his commitment to both research and academic mentorship.
