Sebastian Giraldo is an Assistant Professor in the Graphic + Interactive Design program at Cliffe College of Creative Arts, Youngstown State University. He combines academic expertise with professional experience in UI/UX design to provide students with real-world industry insights and foster innovative design solutions.
Education:
- 2021: Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) in Visual Communication Design from Kent State University, Ohio, with a thesis titled “Context-Aware Framework: Using a Bottom-Up approach for breaking down and contextualizing design problems.”
- 2018: Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Graphic Design from Colegiatura Colombiana of Design, Colombia.
Research & Professional Focus: Sebastian’s research centers on User Experience (UX), User-Centric Design, Usability Testing, and Contextual Inquiry, with a strong emphasis on SaaS and B2B Experience Design. His professional work complements his teaching, which integrates industry collaboration, technology integration, and problem-solving methodologies.
Professional Experience: Since 2021, he has worked as a UI/UX Designer at Riise (Part of SDC Designs) in New York, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to address complex design challenges. Prior roles include Graphic Designer at Wick Poetry Center (2019–2021) and Crystal SAS (2016–2019), where he gained experience in editorial design, textile printmaking, and team-based projects.
