Sebastian Firk is an Associate Professor at the Department of Accounting and Auditing, University of Groningen. He holds a Dr.rer.pol. from the University of Göttingen and has prior roles as Assistant Professor at the University of Göttingen (2017–2019) and Visiting Researcher at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (2017). His research focuses on management accounting, corporate governance, and digitalization's impact on firms and the finance function. He leverages large archival datasets and textual analysis to explore topics like AI integration, CFO career concerns, and digital anxiety in finance roles. His work appears in journals such as European Journal of Information Systems, Management Accounting Research, and Strategic Management Journal. He serves on editorial boards of European Accounting Review and Management Review Quarterly.
Education: PhD in Management Accounting (2016, University of Göttingen), MSc Management (University of Göttingen), BSc Business Administration (RWTH Aachen University).
Research Interests: Digital transformation of finance functions, AI-driven innovation, strategic decision-making, and value-based management. His recent studies analyze the consequences of digital anxiety in finance teams and the role of AI boundary resources in organizational ecosystems.
Teaching: Courses include Digital Transformation of Finance Functions, Management Accounting, and Value-Based Management at both bachelor and master levels.
