Jan Hennig

J.C. (Jan) Hennig is an Associate Professor (with Ius Promovendi) at the Department of Accounting within the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Groningen. He is also a fellow of the FEB Research Institute. Previously, he held positions at the University of Göttingen, where he earned his doctoral degree (Dr. rer. pol., summa cum laude) and master’s degree (awarded the Florenz Sartorius Prize).

Jan’s research focuses on the intersection of corporate governance, management control systems, and corporate strategy, with special attention to societal challenges like sustainability and digital transformation. He employs innovative methods such as computer-aided textual analysis alongside archival datasets. His work has been published in top journals including Accounting, Organizations and Society, European Accounting Review, and Strategic Organization.

His research interests include corporate governance mechanisms, environmental management, board expertise, CEO-CFO collaboration, and the impact of institutional ownership on competitive dynamics. Recent trends in his articles highlight analysis of board environmental expertise, CEO personality effects, digital transformation leadership, and global competition strategies.

Jan serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for several journals and actively contributes to academic discourse via platforms like ResearchGate and ORCID. He has supervised master theses in accounting and control, emphasizing practical applications of theoretical frameworks.
