Sebastian Egenhofer serves as a Professor in the Department of Art History at the University of Vienna, actively engaged in teaching and research through 2025. His institutional affiliation includes the research cluster “Art History and Visual Culture” (Visuelle Kulturgeschichte), where he contributes to interdisciplinary scholarship on visual culture.
His research centers on modern and contemporary art with specialized expertise in Viennese art movements, artists’ archives and estates, and site-specific practices in art and architecture. Methodologically, he explores intersections of urbanism, museum studies, and theoretical frameworks, particularly through field-based investigations of public collections and architectural contexts in cultural hubs like Frankfurt and Cologne.
Through thesis seminars and advanced courses, Professor Egenhofer mentors graduate students in art historical research, emphasizing primary source analysis and critical theory. His teaching portfolio—including field trips to Rhineland collections and case studies on figures like Warhol and Cézanne—demonstrates applied engagement with museum architecture and modern painting traditions. As a core member of the “Art History and Visual Culture” research cluster, he fosters collaborative work bridging historical analysis and contemporary visual practices.
