Sebastian Botzem

Sebastian Botzem is Professor at the Institute for Intercultural and International Studies (InIIS) at the University of Bremen, where he has served as Head of the Research Group 'Transnational political ordering in global finance' since February 2014. The InIIS functions as a research institution within Department 8 (Social Sciences) of the University of Bremen and supports the Collaborative Research Center 1342 'Global Development Dynamics of Social Policy' and the Master's Program in International Relations.

Botzem's research focuses on cross-border standardization in financial reporting, transnational governance of financial markets, and organization theory within International Political Economy. His work examines how global financial standards are created, implemented, and contested across national boundaries, with particular attention to the organizational dynamics that shape transnational regulatory processes. He approaches these topics through a theoretical lens that combines institutional analysis with political economy perspectives.

His scholarly output reveals consistent engagement with the politics of accounting regulation, with major publications concentrated around 2010-2012. Botzem's work demonstrates how financial reporting standards represent not merely technical accounting matters but rather deeply political processes of path creation in global governance.
