Sebastian Biba

Dr. Sebastian Biba is an Associate Professor at the GIGA Institute for Asian Studies (since February 2022) and a Fellow at the Johanna Quandt Young Academy at Goethe University (since January 2021). His research focuses on triangular relations between Germany/Europe, the U.S., and China, as well as hydro-politics in the Mekong River Basin. He has held visiting fellowships at Johns Hopkins University (SAIS, 2020–2021), Peking University (2016), and the GIGA Institute for Asian Studies (2020).

Research Interests: Biba’s work analyzes China’s geopolitical strategies, transnational infrastructure projects, and the evolving dynamics of global power competition. His studies often intersect with environmental governance and regional security in East Asia.
