Sean Peters is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences at the University of Colorado Boulder, affiliated with the Colorado Center for Astrodynamics Research (CCAR). He holds a PhD (2020) and MS (2017) in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, and a BS (2015) in Electrical Engineering from Rice University.
His research focuses on developing low-resource remote sensing techniques using signals of opportunity, such as solar radio emissions and Jupiter's decametric radiation, for applications in glaciology, planetary science, and astrogeology. Key projects include passive radar sounding for ice sheet monitoring and subsurface exploration of icy moons like Europa.
Peters has received the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship and the 2019 IGARSS Best Student Paper (2nd Place). His work spans radar engineering, signal processing, and environmental monitoring, with contributions to passive synthetic aperture radar imaging and ionospheric interference mitigation. His lab's research aims to advance sustainable remote sensing technologies for Earth and planetary science.
