Sean Nye is an Associate Professor at the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California. He holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Studies in Discourse and Society from the University of Minnesota, where he was honored with the Best Dissertation Award in Arts and Humanities (2014). His teaching includes signature courses on Electronic Dance Music and Hip-Hop for USC’s general education curriculum.
Sean Nye’s research spans Electronic Music, Science Fiction, Hip-Hop Studies, Exile Studies, and German-American Cultural Exchange. His 2022 book Modeselektor's Happy Birthday! explores Berlin techno’s cultural impact. His scholarly work has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Journal of Popular Music Studies and Dancecult.
