Dr. Sean Murphy serves as Assistant Professor of Arts Management & Entrepreneurship and Music Industry Area Coordinator at Baldwin Wallace University, where the program he oversees was named a "Top Music Business School" by Billboard Magazine in 2020.
His educational credentials include a D.M.A. and M.M. from the University of North Texas and a B.M.E. from Slippery Rock University, where he studied music entrepreneurship with Fabiana Claure and saxophone with Eric Nestler and Jason Kush.
Dr. Murphy's research spans Arts Management, Entrepreneurship, and Music Industry innovation, with applied work in Saxophone Performance, Music Pedagogy, and inclusive Music Publishing. As founder of Murphy Music Press—celebrated for "intentional diversity and inclusivity"—his catalog was featured at the 59th presidential inauguration. His debut album "Rediscovering Bauzin" received acclaim from Fanfare Magazine, and he performs as a Selmer-Paris artist.
His major recognition includes the 2021 American Prize in Arts Education, awarded for exceptional contributions to arts administration in the United States.
Dr. Murphy has published scholarly articles on saxophone pedagogy and entrepreneurship in international journals and collaborates with leading wind band composers, advancing both academic and industry practices in music.
