Sean Klein serves as a Researcher and doctoral student at the Bundeswehr University Munich, affiliated with the Professorship for Flight Mechanics and Flight Guidance under Prof. Schulte since June 2024.
His academic foundation includes a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Würzburg (thesis completed at the Helmholtz Institute for RNA-based Infection Research) and a Master's degree in Bioinformatics from the University of Tübingen. During his graduate studies, he conducted research at Sapienza University in Rome, Hannover Medical School, and the Peter L. Reichertz Institute for Medical Informatics, focusing on deep learning and computer vision for kidney cancer biomarker detection in tissue images.
Current research centers on advancing non-player character (NPC) artificial intelligence in serious games through imitation learning and reinforcement learning techniques to simulate human behavior for complex mission training. Integrated into the Horizon Europe B-Prepared project, this work bridges Machine Learning and Human Behavior Modeling to create adaptive simulation environments for defense and emergency response scenarios, leveraging prior expertise in medical image analysis and Explainable AI.
As a doctoral researcher in the Horizon Europe B-Prepared project, Klein develops NPC AI systems for simulated training applications. He does not currently supervise students or manage independent grants, focusing entirely on project-driven research within his academic role.
He operates within the Professorship for Flight Mechanics and Flight Guidance research team at Bundeswehr University Munich, collaborating on AI-driven simulation technologies that translate behavioral modeling into practical training tools for high-stakes operational environments.
