Sean Heuston

Sean Heuston serves as the Dr. Tony N. Redd Distinguished Professor of English at The Citadel's Department of English, Fine Arts & Communications within the School of Humanities & Social Sciences. He has been a dedicated faculty member since 2002 and received The Citadel's prestigious college-wide James A. Grimsley Undergraduate Teaching Award.

His academic credentials include a B.A. in English from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo; an M.A. in English from Stanford University; and a Ph.D. in English from Vanderbilt University.

Dr. Heuston's research focuses on film studies, Southern literature, modern poetry, and Irish literature. His scholarly work has been published in respected journals including College Teaching, Journal of American Studies, Mississippi Quarterly, Studies in Popular Culture, Film and History Annual, International Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Notes and Queries. His expertise has been recognized through interviews with major media outlets such as Newsweek, Public Radio International, and the Post & Courier.

Among his notable scholarly contributions is his book Modern Poetry and Ethnography: Yeats, Frost, Warren, Heaney, and the Poet as Anthropologist, which was named a Choice Distinguished Academic Title. He is currently editing Approaches to Teaching the Poetry of Robert Frost for the Modern Language Association Press.

Dr. Heuston has made significant institutional contributions by establishing and directing The Citadel's Summer in London Program for eighteen years. He has also served as the faculty advisor to Bravo Company since 2002, demonstrating his commitment to student development and engagement.
