Kyle S. Sinisi

Dr. Kyle S. Sinisi is a Professor of History at The Citadel's Department of History within the School of Humanities & Social Sciences. He holds a PhD from Kansas State University and has been at The Citadel since 1994. His teaching focuses on Civil War, World War II, U.S. military history, and weaponry history. He has won the James A. Grimsley Award twice for excellence in teaching. His research explores American political and military history, particularly the Civil War and Gilded Age.

Education: BA (Virginia Military Institute), MA/PhD (Kansas State University).

Research Interests: Includes state civil war claims, federalism, military strategy, and the intersection of political structures with wartime economics. Current projects include a biography of General Samuel R. Curtis and a study of Charleston during the Civil War.

Publications include The Last Hurrah (2015) and Sacred Debts (2003), co-editing the Total War Series with Michael B. Barrett. His work on Missouri's 1864 expedition and post-war intergovernmental finance has been widely recognized.

Awards: Two James A. Grimsley Awards for teaching excellence. Active in academic publishing and military history scholarship.
