Sean Healy is Associate Professor of Physical Activity and Sport Participation at the University of Limerick's Department of Physical Education & Sport Sciences. His research examines 24-hour movement behaviors (physical activity, sedentary behavior, sleep) in marginalized populations, particularly autistic individuals and people with intellectual disabilities. Current projects include the STAR initiative developing digital interventions to promote physical activity in autistic college students.
Research employs time-use epidemiology and qualitative methods to understand multi-level determinants of health behaviors. Recent publications address cancer screening access, hypertension management through activity timing, and inclusive education support systems.
As Associate Editor of Adapted Physical Activity Quarterly, he advances methodological rigor in disability research. Funded projects include Erasmus Sport collaborations and studies on cardiovascular health in disabled populations.
