Sean Aday is an Associate Professor of Media and Public Affairs and International Affairs at George Washington University's School of Media and Public Affairs. He joined the faculty in 2000 after completing his Ph.D. and post-doctoral work at the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg School for Communication. His research focuses on the intersection of media, politics, and public opinion, particularly regarding war, foreign policy, and digital media's role in democracy movements and counter-terror efforts.
Dr. Aday holds a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. His career includes roles as a journalist at The Kansas City Star and other outlets before academia. He directed GW’s Institute for Public Diplomacy and Global Communication and its MA Global Communication program. Current projects include a Hewlett Foundation grant studying cyber security media coverage and past leadership of the U.S. Institute of Peace-funded 'Blogs and Bullets' project analyzing digital media in conflicts like the Arab Spring and Syrian civil war.
