Sean Aas is a Senior Research Scholar at the Kennedy Institute of Ethics and an Assistant Professor in the Philosophy Department at Georgetown University. His work bridges political philosophy and bioethics, with a focus on disability, egalitarian justice, and the moral significance of the body and mind.
Research Interests: Dr. Aas explores foundational questions in political philosophy and bioethics, particularly concerning the definition and implications of disability, its relationship to justice and healthcare, and ethical frameworks for bodily and mental rights. His current manuscript develops a contractualist theory of bodily boundaries, arguing that social practices determine what constitutes a body and its moral significance.
Interdisciplinary Focus: He examines how emerging technologies like AI and neurointerventions challenge traditional notions of mental privacy, proposing analogies between bodily and mental boundaries in moral theory. This work intersects with applied ethics, particularly in debates around prosthetic and implant access rights.
