Scott Sorrell serves as the Knight Institute Outreach Coordinator and a Visiting Lecturer in the Writing Workshop at Cornell University, affiliated with the Department of Anthropology and the John S. Knight Institute for Writing in the Disciplines.
His educational credentials include:
- Doctor of Philosophy in Anthropology from Cornell University, concentrating in Feminist Gender and Sexuality Studies
- Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from Duke University
Dr. Sorrell's research spans Anthropology, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and LGBTQ-focused Urban Studies, examining community formation among LGBTQ groups in Bangalore, India. His pedagogical expertise centers on Writing Pedagogy and Ethnographic Writing, emphasizing writing as a cross-disciplinary critical thinking tool that transcends academic boundaries to develop student voice and stylistic versatility.
In his outreach role, he collaborates with faculty and departments to cultivate campus-wide writing culture through instructor training and program development, leveraging diverse professional experience from refugee resettlement to commercial kitchens to enhance writer support strategies.
