Scott Reese is Professor and Affiliated Researcher at the University of Hamburg's Cluster of Excellence 'Understanding Written Artefacts'. His research examines Islamic manuscript and print cultures in East Africa within colonial and post-colonial contexts, focusing on knowledge transmission across the Indian Ocean world.
Current projects include FNT09 investigating manuscript-print relationships in East African Islamic traditions and Endangered Archives Programme work preserving the Maalim Muhammad Idris Collection. His publications analyze colonial mobility narratives, Islamic textual traditions, and print culture adaptation in African contexts.
