Scott Marley is an Associate Professor of Physics in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at Louisiana State University (LSU), part of the College of Science. He holds a Ph.D. from Western Michigan University (2012). His research focuses on experimental nuclear physics, particularly the structure and decay properties of unstable atomic nuclei, with applications to astrophysical processes like the rapid neutron-capture (r-process). He collaborates with facilities such as Argonne National Laboratory (ANL), Notre Dame's Institute for Structure and Nuclear Astrophysics, and CARIBU (Californium Rare Isotope Breeder Upgrade). His work involves advanced detectors like the Helical Orbit Spectrometer (HELIOS) and the Beta-decay Paul Trap. Research highlights include studies on neutron-rich nuclei and their roles in stellar environments.
Dr. Marley's research spans experimental techniques in transfer reactions, decay spectroscopy, and trapped ion methods. His contributions address fundamental questions in nuclear structure, fusion reactions, and isotopic chronology (e.g., 146Sm-142Nd dating).
