Scott Lucas is an Associate Professor in Islamic Studies at the University of Arizona and serves as Director of Undergraduate Studies for the MENAS program. His research focuses on the classical period of Islamic civilization, particularly the creative processes of Sunni and Zaydi scholars in law, hadith, and Qur'anic commentary. He recently published a two-volume translation of al-Tabari’s Qur'an commentary and is currently engaged in projects related to Zaydi law and theology in Yemen.
Dr. Lucas held an ACLS Fellowship (2018-2019) and was a member of the Institute for Advanced Study’s School of Historical Studies in Princeton during Fall 2018. His work bridges textual analysis with historical and theological contexts, emphasizing understudied aspects of Islamic legal and theological thought.
