Scott J. Smith is an Associate Professor of Social Work at Oakland University's Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work and Criminal Justice. He specializes in sexual health, health disparities, and international social work. His research focuses on topics such as religiosity's impact on nonmarital parity, acculturation effects on sexual behavior among Latinas, and HIV/AIDS education outcomes. He teaches courses including Human Behavior and Social Environment, Social Work Internship, and Social Work Seminar series.
Smith's work emphasizes culturally competent social work practices, particularly in border communities and marginalized populations.
