Professor Scott J. Dalgarno is a faculty member at Heriot-Watt University's School of Engineering & Physical Sciences within the Institute of Chemical Sciences. His research focuses on self- and metal-directed assembly of nanostructures and coordination clusters, contributing to sustainable development goals in materials science. He has authored over 197 publications, with recent work emphasizing metal-organic frameworks, magnetic materials, and supramolecular chemistry.
Notable awards include the RSC Harrison Meldola Prize (2010), HWU Student Voice Award (2021), and the Inaugural RSC Chemical Communications Emerging Investigator Lectureship (2011). He manages key facilities like NMR Spectroscopy and Powder X-ray Diffraction. Recent activities include keynote speaking at international symposia and co-leading the REF 2029 submission for Chemistry (UoA 8).
Research interests span calixarene chemistry, lanthanide clusters, and photocatalytic systems. Collaborations include studies on chiral fluid flows, magnetic field control, and nanostructure design. His work bridges theoretical crystal engineering with applied materials innovation.
