Dr. Scott Henke serves as a Regents Professor in the Department of Rangeland and Wildlife Sciences within Texas A&M University-Kingsville's College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, where he has contributed since joining the faculty in 1992 after completing his PhD at Texas Tech University.
His educational credentials include:
- Bachelor of Science in Ecology, Evolution, and Population Biology from Purdue University
- Master of Science in Wildlife Science from Texas Tech University (1988)
- Doctor of Philosophy in Wildlife Science from Texas Tech University (1992)
Dr. Henke's research centers on wildlife disease dynamics, mesopredator ecology, and human-wildlife conflict resolution, with field studies spanning rabies transmission, invasive species impacts, and conservation challenges affecting species like horned lizards, alligators, and coyotes. Current projects investigate zoonotic parasitic roundworms, aflatoxin effects on songbirds, and Texas horned lizard population declines.
His honors include:
- The Wildlife Society Outstanding Publication Award for 'Effects of coyote removal on the faunal community in western Texas' (2001)
- Regents Professor designation (2008)
- Chancellor's Excellence in Teaching Award (2009)
- Student Chapter Advisor of the Year recognition (2016)
As an educator, Dr. Henke teaches Wildlife Policy and Law, Wildlife Capstone, and Wildlife Public Relations courses while advising student chapters. His professional leadership includes past presidencies of the Texas Chapter of The Wildlife Society and the International Horned Lizard Conservation Society, alongside editorial contributions to three academic books including 'Becoming a Wildlife Professional'.
