Scott Hendricks

Scott Hendricks is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Clark University, holding the George F. Kneller Endowed Chair in Philosophy since 2001. He teaches courses including Philosophy of Mind, Epistemology, Symbolic Logic, and Plato’s Republic for first-year students. His research focuses on phenomenal concepts, anti-physicalist arguments, and intersections of philosophy with science fiction.

Research Interests: Hendricks explores the nature of phenomenal concepts—how sensory experiences inform metaphysical and epistemological debates. He critiques anti-physicalist arguments and bridges analytic philosophy with interdisciplinary topics like science fiction’s portrayal of consciousness. His work emphasizes logical rigor through teaching symbolic logic.

Teaching & Collaboration: Co-taught an interdisciplinary seminar with Prof. Betsy Huang (English) titled “Science Fiction and the Mind of the Other,” integrating philosophy with literary analysis. Regularly offers undergraduate seminars on ancient Greek philosophy, particularly Plato’s Republic.
