Scott Hamilton is an Associate Professor of Ichthyology at San Jose State University's Moss Landing Marine Laboratories within the College of Science. His research focuses on climate change impacts on groundfish species and fisheries management along the U.S. West Coast.
Dr. Hamilton specializes in Ichthyology and Marine Biology, investigating how ocean acidification and hypoxia affect reproductive capacity in rockfish and other groundfish. His work examines geographic variations in demography and life history of recovering species like lingcod and canary rockfish to provide high-resolution stock assessment data for NOAA fisheries management.
He secured three NOAA research grants totaling over $700,000 for projects analyzing climate change impacts on commercially important groundfish. These initiatives involve collaboration with the fishing industry and SJSU students at Moss Landing Marine Laboratories to improve stock assessments and sustainable management practices.
