Professor Scott Gilpatric is a faculty member in the Department of Economics at the University of Tennessee Knoxville since 2003. He holds a PhD in Economics from Texas A&M University (2002). His research focuses on game theory, regulatory compliance, environmental economics, and strategic behavior in markets. Notably, he has explored contest design, regulatory spillovers, and taxpayer audit mechanisms through theoretical and experimental approaches. Awards include the John and Shirley Moore Faculty Scholar (2014–2018).
He has served in key administrative roles such as Director of Graduate Studies (2017–2018) and Department Head (2019–present). His teaching spans courses like Microeconomic Theory, Industrial Organization, and Economics of Strategy. Sponsored research includes projects funded by the IRS and NSF, addressing topics such as pollution taxes, innovation, and referendum voting dynamics.
