Scott Fish is a Senior Research Scientist in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin and a Visiting Scholar at the US Military Academy at West Point. He re-joined UT Austin in 2012 after serving as the Army's Chief Scientist in the Pentagon, where he provided technical guidance to senior military leadership and collaborated with Army Laboratories. At UT, he advises graduate students on additive manufacturing research and supports DARPA programs. Dr. Fish holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland and degrees from MIT and UT Austin.

Dr. Fish’s research spans multi-physics modeling of hypervelocity launch systems, pulsed power integration for military applications, hybrid electric power systems, and ground robotics. His work has influenced Army science and technology investment strategies and advanced robotic design for off-road operations.
At UT, he previously led the Advanced Manufacturing Center for six years. Earlier roles included Program Manager at DARPA (2000–2003), where he developed groundbreaking ground robotics programs, and leadership positions at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) and the Naval Surface Warfare Center. He continues to mentor engineering students and cadets while contributing to defense-related research initiatives.
