Dr. Scott Farrell is a Research Fellow at the RECOVER Injury Research Centre, The University of Queensland, with additional affiliations as an Affiliate of the Centre for Innovation in Pain and Health Research. His research explores neurological, genetic, and inflammatory mechanisms of chronic musculoskeletal pain, particularly whiplash-associated disorders, using methods like statistical genetics, big data analysis, immunohistochemistry, and quantitative sensory testing. Collaborations include institutions such as the University of Oxford and Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital.
- Education: Bachelor (Honours) and PhD from the University of Newcastle
- Leadership Roles: Chair of the Qld branch of the Australian Physiotherapy Association Pain National Group
His work appears in top journals like Brain, PAIN, and European Spine Journal, with over $2 million in research funding from organizations including the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine and Motor Accident Insurance Commission. Key awards include Fellow of the Australian College of Physiotherapists and Honorary Research Fellow at Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital. Current projects focus on the role of sleep in back pain and stress-modulation in orthopedic trauma care.
