Scott East

Dr. Scott East is a Lecturer at UNSW Art & Design, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture. He holds a PhD in Culture and Society from the University of Western Sydney. His research focuses on museums, cultural institutions, gender, sexuality, disability studies, queer theory, and critical pedagogies. He has led initiatives such as the Director of Student Experience and Global Engagement roles. Current projects include a gallery visitor study using eye-tracking and collaborations with disability arts groups.

Education: PhD (Culture and Society), BCA/BSc (Hons). Teaching includes courses on Museum Studies, Cultural Policy, and Art & the Body. He actively supervises postgraduate students, including those exploring international heritage law, queer curating, and practice-based art projects. His work integrates interdisciplinary approaches, blending theory with community engagement and policy analysis.

Notable projects include a Faculty Research Grant-funded eye-tracking study with Dr. Michael Garbutt and research on creativity in international cultural policy. His contributions span academic publications, industry presentations, and policy advocacy.
