Scott E. McPheeters (he/him) is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Dance at Bates College. He is also an interdisciplinary artist and co-director of Subcircle, a Biddeford, Maine-based dance company, arts presenting organization, and artist residency. McPheeters holds a BA in Theater Arts from Dickinson College and an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts from Sierra Nevada University.
His choreographic work focuses on challenging anthropocentric hierarchies and fostering queer belonging in rural spaces. From 2004 to 2018, he danced professionally in Philadelphia with notable companies such as Nichole Canuso Dance Company, Kun-Yang Lin / Dancers, and Enchantment Theatre Company. In 2016, he received a Philadelphia Barrymore Award for his portrayal of Candy Darling in Opera Philadelphia / Bearded Ladies Cabaret's collaboration, Andy: A Popera.
