معرفی
Scott Chang is a Professor in the Department of Renewable Resources at the University of Alberta's Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences. His research focuses on forest soil processes, soil microbial ecology, and carbon sequestration, with emphasis on mitigating global change through soil management. He teaches courses such as REN R 314 (Forest Soils) and REN R 446 (Climates and Ecosystems), emphasizing soil-plant interactions and biogeochemical cycles.
Dr. Chang leads the Soil Team, investigating topics like nitrogen transformation rates, greenhouse gas emissions, and land reclamation techniques. His work integrates basic and applied research, aiming to balance ecological sustainability with agricultural productivity. Notable contributions include studies on biochar applications and the effects of grazing and urbanization on soil health.
He holds prestigious awards including the Soil Science Society of America and American Society of Agronomy Fellowships (2016), and has been a Killam Professor (2014). His research spans global collaborations, addressing challenges like oil sands reclamation and carbon storage in agroforestry systems.
Dr. Chang's lab actively explores microbial community dynamics, soil organic carbon stability, and the impacts of climate change on terrestrial ecosystems. His teaching emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, preparing students for careers in environmental management and sustainable resource use.
