Sue Grayston is a Professor of Soil Microbial Ecology at the University of British Columbia Faculty of Forestry, where she serves as the Applied Biology Program Director. Her research focuses on soil microbial ecology, plant-microbe interactions, and the impacts of climate change on forest ecosystems.

Grayston's work explores microbial diversity in soils, rhizodeposition, carbon sequestration, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. She investigates how forest management practices, such as stump removal and variable-retention harvesting, affect soil microbial communities and nutrient cycling. Her research also addresses ecological restoration in post-disturbance environments, including oil sands and mine reclamation sites.
