Scott Boitano

Scott Boitano is an Associate Research Scientist in Respiratory Sciences at the University of Arizona, holding additional professorial appointments at the BIO5 Institute, the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, the Physiological Sciences Graduate Interdisciplinary Program, and the Department of Physiology.

His research centers on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and the impact of arsenic exposure on lung epithelial cells. He investigates how low-level arsenic (10-50 ppb)—common in U.S. water supplies—disrupts cellular signaling and wound repair, contributing to respiratory illness affecting 900,000 Americans. This work addresses a critical public health burden with global implications.

Dr. Boitano serves as Principal Investigator for the active clinical trial "Development of Surfactant Protein A-Derived Peptidomimetics for the Treatment of Asthma," focusing on novel therapeutics.
