Dr. Scott A. Eckert is a Professor and Chair of the Biology and Natural Resources Department at Principia College. With over four decades of expertise, he is renowned for pioneering research on sea turtles, particularly leatherbacks, and their conservation. He has authored over 150 scientific articles and serves as Associate Editor of Animal Biotelemetry.
Education:
- PhD in Zoology, University of Georgia
- BS from Principia College
Research Focus: Conservation of marine megafauna, pelagic marine vertebrates, and ecological physiology. His work includes satellite telemetry innovations, linking fishing impacts to turtle population declines, and timber rattlesnake ecology.
Contributions:
- Consultant to global organizations like the WTO and IUCN
- Chairman of U.S. Pacific Sea Turtle Recovery Team
- Editor Emeritus of Marine Turtle Newsletter
Recognition: Awards include the NOAA Conservation Award (1984) and Antarctic Service Medal (1989).
