Sayed Iftekhar

Sayed Iftekhar serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor at The University of Western Australia's School of Agriculture and Environment, where he contributes expertise in environmental and resource economics. His academic journey spans multiple prestigious institutions including Khulna University for forestry training, Oxford University for biodiversity conservation, and the University of Western Australia for his PhD in Agricultural and Resource Economics.

His research interests encompass a broad spectrum of environmental economic topics including urban water management, environmental service payments, mechanism design, group formation and coordination, protected areas and conservation, fisheries management, environmental water buyback, and sustainable tourism. His methodological approaches integrate agent-based modeling, experimental economics, and non-market valuation techniques to address complex environmental challenges.

His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on non-market valuation of environmental resources, groundwater protection economics, and bioeconomic modeling for conservation efforts. These works reveal his consistent application of economic principles to environmental management problems, with particular emphasis on practical policy applications in Australian and international contexts.
