Dr. Saurabh Arora is an Associate Professor in Technology and Innovation for Development at the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) within the University of Sussex Business School. His research focuses on sustainability transformations, colonial modernity critique, and decolonial development frameworks. He has held academic positions since 2014 and previously worked in Minnesota and the Netherlands. Arora's work emphasizes pluralist approaches to sustainability, particularly in agriculture, energy, and urban contexts across India and East Africa.
His research interests include coloniality of power, decolonial methodologies, climate justice, and the politics of agricultural innovation. He has contributed to influential policy reports like Changing Directions: Steering STI towards SDGs (2022) and co-authored over 50 publications. Arora teaches modules on sustainable development policy, science democratization, and decolonizing development in Sussex's MSc programs.
He has secured six grants totaling £multi-million from UK Research & Innovation and ESRC, including leadership in the STEPS Centre (2011-2017) and ResNexus (2015-2019). His work bridges theory and practice through collaborative projects with NGOs and policymakers, emphasizing bottom-up agency and marginalized voices in sustainability transitions.
