Saumyadeep Mandal

Saumyadeep Mandal is a PhD candidate in Media and Communications at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), researching caste representations in Indian cinema and their socio-political impacts. His work focuses on how Dalit lived experiences are marginalized in mainstream media and the affective responses of audiences. He holds an M.A. in Sociology from Presidency University and an MSc in Media and Communications from LSE.

His research interests include caste, spectatorship theory, psychoanalysis of media, and digital media's role in social justice movements. Current projects explore Dalit subaltern voices in global media and the intersection of caste/class/gender in media consumption.

He serves as a Research Officer at the LSE Research Ethics Committee and collaborates on initiatives like the Digital Futures for Children project and the EU-funded REMEDIS study. His teaching roles include supporting dissertations and global communications courses at LSE.
