Professor Saul Lehrfreund MBE is a Visiting Professor at the University of Reading and Co-Executive Director of The Death Penalty Project, an international human rights organization based in London. His work focuses on constitutional and international human rights law, particularly in cases involving the death penalty across Commonwealth countries and international tribunals since 1992. He has represented prisoners under sentence of death and advised legal professionals in Uganda, Nigeria, Malawi, Ghana, India, Malaysia, and others on capital punishment litigation. His expertise extends to engagements with Japan, Taiwan, China, and India through expert delegations.
He serves on the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office Pro Bono Panel, advocating for British nationals facing the death penalty. Lehrfreund has been honored with an MBE (2000) and an Honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Reading (2009). His advocacy includes extensive lectures and publications on capital punishment and human rights at global forums like the United Nations and Council of Europe.
