Professor Saul Faust is a Professor of Paediatric Immunology & Infectious Diseases at the University of Southampton. He is Director of the NIHR Southampton Clinical Research Facility, National co-lead for the NIHR Vaccine Innovation Pathway, and Co-Health Director of the South Central Regional Research Network. His roles include leadership in the NIHR Research Delivery Network and the University Hospital Association R&D Directors Group.
Research focuses on paediatric vaccines, antimicrobial resistance, and clinical trial design. Notable projects include the UK-wide COV-BOOST trial and leadership in the RECOVERY trial's pediatric arm. He co-directs the National Immunisation Schedule Evaluation Consortium (NISEC2) and investigates biomarker-guided antibiotic therapy durations.
External roles include chairing NICE guideline committees for sepsis and Lyme disease, NHS England clinical lead for paediatric allergy and immunology, and memberships in the European Medicines Agency and NHS England Clinical Reference Groups.
Key awards include an OBE for services to healthcare and NIHR Senior Investigator status. He supervises PhD students in biological and infectious disease sciences, with active grants from the MRC, Wellcome Trust, and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
