Satya Kunapuli, PhD, is a Professor and Director at the Sol Sherry Thrombosis Research Center within Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. His research focuses on nucleotide receptor signaling in the cardiovascular system, particularly ADP-induced platelet activation and its implications in thrombotic disorders.
- Education:
- PhD in Biochemistry (1984) - Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore
- MSc in Chemistry (1975-1977) - Andhra University
- BSc in Chemistry (1972-1975) - Andhra University
His laboratory pioneered the cloning of P2Y1 and P2Y12 receptors and investigates signal transduction pathways, ligand binding sites, and desensitization mechanisms in platelet receptors. Current projects explore G12/13 protein interactions with HS-1, contributing to dense granule secretion and Akt phosphorylation.
Recent publications highlight his work on:
- GRK3-mediated desensitization of GPCRs
- 12-LOX inhibition in heparin-induced thrombocytopenia
- P2Y12 receptor modulation of sepsis inflammation
- TULA-family regulators of platelet activation
Supported by National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants, his work bridges fundamental receptor biology with translational applications in cardiovascular diseases.
