Satish Bastola is an Assistant Professor and Graduate Coordinator in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of New Orleans. He joined UNO in 2019 after gaining extensive research experience as a research engineer at Georgia Institute of Technology and as a post-doctoral researcher at Florida State University, University of Ireland, and University of Montpellier.
His educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of Yamanashi, Japan (2008)
- MSc in Water Resources Engineering from Tribhuvan University, Nepal (2001)
- BE in Civil Engineering from Tribhuvan University, Nepal (1998)
Dr. Bastola's research focuses on water resources and hydrological systems. His primary interests include the terrestrial water cycle in large river basins, interactions between hydrological, geomorphological and biogeochemical processes, terrestrial biosphere modeling, and the impacts of climate change on water resources and hydrologic regimes. He also investigates the influence of vegetation on soil erosion and landslides, statistical downscaling for hydrological applications, and the integration of crop models with satellite data for crop yield analysis.
As Graduate Coordinator, Dr. Bastola oversees the graduate program in Civil and Environmental Engineering. He has been involved in several NSF-funded national scale projects, contributing to research in water resources and climate change impacts.
