Dr. Sathees Navaratnam serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor in RMIT University's School of Engineering, Department of Civil & Infrastructure Engineering. With over 16 years of international experience across the UK, Australia, Singapore, and Sri Lanka, his expertise centers on civil engineering building design and construction, particularly structural timber framing, steel structures, and prefabricated systems.
His research spans prefabricated building systems, mass timber construction, sustainable materials, structural/fire testing (material-to-full scale), life-cycle assessment, and computational modeling. He employs experimental methods including joint/full-scale/fire testing alongside wind tunnel analysis and finite element modeling to advance modular construction safety and efficiency.
Accolades include the CSIRO Postgraduate Studentship (2013-2016), John Mclntyre Engineering Prize (2013), Engineering Structures Outstanding Reviewer Award (2018), and CDRI Fellowship (2022-2023).
As an active supervisor open to Masters/PhD candidates, he contributes to industry through journal reviewing (Engineering Structures, Journal of Wind Structures) and maintains Chartered Member status with Engineers Australia. His teaching portfolio covers Steel Structures, Sustainable Infrastructure Design, and Complex Structures analysis.
