Sascha Wegner

Dr. Sascha Wegner is a Researcher and Coordinator of Science Communication for the DFG priority program 'Jewish Cultural Heritage' (SPP 2357) at the Institute for Musicology of the University of Music, Drama and Media Hannover. He also serves at the European Center for Jewish Music (ECJM) and has been a member of the Faculty of Philosophy and History since 2012.

His research focuses on European music and cultural history from the 17th to 20th centuries, with specializations in music historiography (discourse history, myths of origin, problem history), instrumental music (symphonic, clavier, chamber music), and vocal music (opera, cantata, church/liturgical music). He explores intersections between music and politics and methodologies of historical analysis.

Wegner studied musicology, art history, and literature at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar and Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena (2001–2007). He has held research assistant roles at the Institute for Musicology Weimar-Jena (2007–2008) and Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg (1999–2007), and was a Visiting Lecturer in Budapest (2004/05). Since 2012, he has been affiliated with the University of Bern and became a middle representative of the philosophical-historical faculty in 2015–2018.
