Sascha Sistenich is a Research Associate and Confidant at the University of Bonn's Institute of Archaeology and Cultural Anthropology, Department of Empirical Cultural Studies and Cultural Anthropology. He is currently completing his doctoral research on queer care practices, prefigurations of solidarity, and resistant coexistence models. His academic journey includes studies in Transcultural Studies/Cultural Anthropology and Multilingual Communication at TH Köln, Universidad de Granada (2014-2018), and the University of Bonn (2018-2021).
His research interests span Queer Anthropology, Gender and Queer Studies, Anthropology of Care & Solidarity Research, Anthropology of the Future/Utopia Research, Social Movement Research, and Activist/Solidarity Ethnography. His current doctoral project, 'Between political activism and everyday practice: Prefigurations of queer solidarity-caring coexistence,' examines how queer people prefigure ideas of care and solidarity in their everyday lives through activist ethnography.
Sistenich's publications reveal a strong focus on queer perspectives, care practices, and gender diversity. His work demonstrates how queer communities develop alternative kinship structures ('chosen families'), create solidarity networks, and develop resistant care practices that challenge normative social structures. His research shows particular attention to how marginalized communities navigate systemic discrimination while building transformative social arrangements.
