Sascha Knauf

Prof. Sascha Knauf serves as Professor and Head of the Institute of International Animal Health/One Health (IITG) at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Justus Liebig University Giessen, with the institute physically located on Riems Island in Greifswald (Südufer 10, 17493).

His research centers on the One Health paradigm, specifically investigating international animal health dynamics through wildlife disease reservoir systems and zoonotic transmission pathways. As a Recognised Veterinarian Specialist in Wildlife Health, he integrates clinical veterinary expertise with ecological disease modeling to address global health security challenges at the human-animal-environment interface.

Professional recognition includes certification as a Recognised Veterinarian Specialist in Wildlife Health by the German Chamber of Veterinarians.

Under his directorship, the IITG operates through specialized working groups: Wildlife Health and Disease Reservoir Systems forms the scientific core, complemented by Capacity Strengthening initiatives, International Cooperations frameworks, and dedicated Projects units focused on field implementation and policy translation.
