Sarah Wilson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Kentucky, affiliated with the Stanley and Karen Pigman College of Engineering. She holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst (2015) and a B.S. from Rowan University (2009), complemented by a Professional Engineering License in Kentucky (2019). Her research focuses on engineering education, particularly mental health interventions for undergraduate engineers, addressing barriers like imposter phenomenon and communication challenges. She has received an NSF Research Initiation Grant (2020) to develop mental health-related help-seeking instruments.
Dr. Wilson teaches courses emphasizing communication, teamwork, and problem-solving in chemical engineering. She leads the Wilson Research Group, advising graduate and undergraduate students such as Courtney Wright, Melanie Miller, and Isabella Armstrong. Her outreach includes workshops on student wellness and collaborations like the Royal Society of Chemistry Advances project. She has transitioned from a Lecturer (2015–2021) to her current role, expanding into qualitative research methods in education and mental health.
Key initiatives include promoting mental health training across engineering disciplines, designing interventions for help-seeking behaviors, and fostering inclusive academic environments. Her work bridges engineering pedagogy with psychological support, aiming to enhance student well-being and academic success.
